College Dorm Packing Essentials!

Categories:

General Items:
  •        Laundry bag/basket/hamper
  •       Laundry detergent (the Tide pods are very nice)
  •        Dryer sheets
  •       Stain remover
  •       Color catchers
  •       STORAGE- (a lot of the dorms here don’t come with a whole lot of built-in storage—especially Park Stradley, Smith-Steeb, and Siebert)

o   I suggest the wood storage cube organizer from Target, it fits perfectly under a lofted bed (http://www.target.com/th/wood+storage+cube+organizer)
o   Storage ottomans are also nice
  •       Iron
  •       Ironing board (mini)
  •       Comforter and sheets (to fit a twin XL bed)
  •       Pillows and pillow cases
  •       Mattress protector
  •        Mattress topper/pad

o   A 2’’ topper from Bed, Bath and Beyond fits nicely
  •       Blanket
  •       Bath towels and wash cloths
  •       A few snacks for when you don’t feel like walking to get food
  •        Desk lamp
  •      Taller, bendable lamp
  •       Hanging shoe organizer
  •       Phone chargers

o   Amazon has chargers for iPhones with extra-long cords (10 ft)—perfect for charging your phone when you’re using it in your lofted bed

Cleaning supplies:
  •       Windex
  •       Clorox wipes
  •       Lysol
  •       Air freshener (I suggest Glade and an Airwick)
  •       Paper towels
  •       Trash bags
  •       Small vacuum

Office/school supplies:

  • Pens
  •  Pencils
  • Highlighters
  • Printer paper
  • Loose-leaf
  • Rubber bands
  • Binder clips
  • Glue sticks
  • Hole punch
  •  Stapler
  •  Pencil sharpener
  •  Paper clips
  • Notecards
  • Sharpies
  • Backpack
  •  Folders
  •  Notebooks
  • Binders
  • Headphones for when you’re doing your homework
  • Anything else your heart desires (maybe some organizational items to categorize all of your supplies)!

Toiletries:
  •       Shower items
  •       Shower robe
  •       Shower caddy (if sharing a bathroom with many people)
  •        Lotion
  •        Q-tips
  •       Brush/comb
  •      The rest is based on personal preference!

Clothes:

  •        Only bring warm clothes to begin with (unless you live far away and do not have access to warmer clothes)
  •       Don’t forget hangers!
  •        One suggestion for packing clothes is to pre-hang them on hangers and then put trash bags around groups of 7 hangers! All hangers/trash bags can then be put in a suitcase for packaging
